What are the rights of parents in school?
Hungary
English
Do you have a child aged 12-16?

Hungarian legislation is controversial here. According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), in force in the country, you have all rights to make decisions and full responsibility for educating your child. Education legislation, however, takes nearly all your rights away. You have the right to receive information concerning your child, express your opinion that is not necessarily taken into account and you can decide to enrol your child in a private or church school, or home-school your child, but the latter requires permission from the school and child protection authorities, and even in that case you must follow the school curriculum. If you want to exercise your rights protected by the UNCRC, you need to take a legal path.
