On major holidays most shops are closed, only flower shops and restaurants and 24/7 stores are open. There are traditionally fireworks on 20 August and a lot of private fireworks throughout 31 December and 1 January. Christmas decorations are usually up from mid- or late October to the beginning of January. On national holidays the national flag is put on all houses, it is compulsory. It is also traditional to have political demonstrations on 15 March and 23 October, so most people stay at home. On 20 August there fairs, open air programmes all over the country.
