Is it possible to have extra leave from my employment if I have a child?

Yes, you are entitled additional leave. Specifically:

  • special maternity protection leave six months after the end of maternity leave, entitled to mothers who are insured with IKA 
  • Reduced working time for child upbringing, up to 30 months after the end of maternity leave for child up to 4 years, one hour a day or two hours a day until the child is 12 months and one hour for additional period of six months (total 16 months )
  • Four months for each parent, without remuneration but with insurance coverage. Conditions: a year of work, workplace with at least 100 employees, the other parent works outside the home, the child has not reached the age of two and a half years
  • In case of having a child with the process of surrogacy, the parents are entitled to leave relating to care and upbringing of the child as if it were natural.
  • for each child up to 16 years who is a student, parents, employees are entitled to time off, without cutting their earnings and after the employer's permission, some hours or the whole day off work up to four days per year, to attend the school performance of the child.
  • to employees who are widowed or are single parents who have custody of the child, paid leave is granted for 6 working days per year, extra to those entitled under other provisions. Parent with three children or more, is entitled to 8 working days leave. Permission is granted due to increased childcare needs aged until 12 years completed.
