Religious education and ethics education are regular subjects at all public schools in Thüringen Every pupil who visits a public school is obliged to participate in the religious instruction of his confession or in the ethics lessons. Parents decide on their children's participation in religious or ethics education. After reaching the age of 14, the pupils themselves decide which subject they want to attend (§ 46 Education Act Thüringen).
