In Sachsen, English is taught compulsory in primary school from grade 3 onwards. At selected primary schools, in addition to English, another foreign language (e. g. Polish, Czech, French) is offered to all pupils from grade 1 (https://www.schule.sachsen.de/1789.htm).

In lower secondary education, the first compulsory foreign language is English and it is continuously taught until the end of secondary school.

In Oberschule, pupils from grade 6 on can choose a second foreign language (mostly French). For pupils aspiring graduation from high school, a second foreign language is mandatory. In addition, Czech, Polish, Italian or Russian are offered as a working group (https://www.schule.sachsen.de/1793.htm).

At Gymnasium, the second foreign language is an obligation. From grade 6 on, the second foreign language can be French, Italian, Latin, Polish, Russian, Spanish or Czech. From grade 8 onwards, the third foreign language can be French, Greek, Italian, Latin, Polish, Russian, Spanish or Czech (https://www.schule.sachsen.de/2834.htm).
