In order to make the quality of school graduations in Germany comparable, the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) has developed nationwide educational standards for German, mathematics and foreign languages as well as for the natural sciences, which should be reached at the end of compulsory education and for the transition to secondary schools.

The German federal states have developed education plans (curricula) that implement the educational standards in the individual school subjects. The education plans define the subject-related requirements (learning content) and describe the competencies to be achieved (learning goals). On basis of the education plans, the schools develop their own curricula for the subjects.

The curricula for schools in Sachsen can be found at: https://www.schule.sachsen.de/lpdb/#
