Advice and information rights

Parents have the right to receive regular information on basic and current school issues, information and advice about the education and the level of performance of their child.

Right to choose of school career

After consulting by the primary school, parents have the right to choose which type of school their child should attend after primary school.

Participation rights

Parents have the right (and duty) to participate in the education of the child.

Through the parents' representatives, the parents are involved in the education and teaching work of the school. In the classroom, parents have the right to be informed about essential school issues and work in class and to participate in counseling and support in essential classroom education and teaching issues, and e.g. decide whether to go on a school trip.

In the School's Parent Board, the speakers of the class parents have the right to be consulted and decide on all matters concerning the parents or to give an opinion before deciding on matters of fundamental importance for the teaching and educational work. In the school conference (highest decision-committee of the school), the parents' representatives have the right to co-decide on all fundamental matters concerning the school, such as: about the school program, the school regulations, the organization of lessons, the offer of voluntary education and school events.

In parental committees at city, county or state level, parents' representatives can bring in the interests of all parents and have the right to comment on important school and education issues and bills.
