In Sachsen-Anhalt, English is taught compulsory in primary school from grade 3 onwards.

In lower secondary education, the first compulsory foreign language is English and it is continuously taught until graduation.

In all secondary schools, students from grade 6 on can choose French or Russian as their second foreign language. For pupils aspiring graduation from high school, a second foreign language is mandatory.

At Gymnasium, the second foreign language is an obligation. At Gymnasium, French, Greek, Italian, Latin, Russian or Spanish can be chosen as a second or third foreign language.
