In Saarland, the school-bearer covers the transport costs, which are necessarily incurred by attending elementary school or, if necessary, by attending special needs schools. The necessary transport costs, which arise as a result of the disability of pupils who attend a regular school, are also taken over (§ 43 Abs. 3 law for the organization of the school system in the Saarland).
School transport is necessary if the daily way to school and back is more than 4 km. If the route is shorter, the school inspectorate may consider pupils transport necessary when the school route is particularly difficult and dangerous for the pupils. The age of the pupils, the nature of the way to school, the endangerment of road traffic, and a physical and mental disabilities of pupils of special needs schools must be taken into account.
If your child is entitled to benefits from the education and participation package, the costs for student transport between the place of residence and the school will be covered.
