Where can my child learn the majority language of the country?

Do you have a child aged 3-6?

Children can learn the German language in kindergarten, at school and in daily life or in intercultural meeting places.

Kindergartens in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz have the task of supporting children in language development and, if necessary, to carry out language support measures (https://kita.rlp.de/de/themen/sprachbildung/).

At the school registration in the year before school enrolment, the primary school determines the German language skills. This applies in particular to children who do not attend day care during the last year before school enrolment. If there is a need for language support, the school recommends that the children visit the kindergarten in the last year before school enrolment. At least, the children should participate in an additional measure of language support in kindergarten. For this, the day-care centres keep appropriate places free (https://kita.rlp.de/de/themen/sprachbildung/foerderung-von-sprachfoerdermassnahmen/).

All school-age children without sufficient German language skills receive language lessons in language learning courses in the schools. These language learning courses are free. In regular school education, language education and language support are systematically continued as an integrated measure in all schools (https://bm.rlp.de/de/bildung/sprachbildung/sprachfoerderung-in-der-schule/).
