In schools in Rheinland- Pfalz, mother tongue education is offered for pupils from elementary school to the end of secondary school. The lesson usually covers 3 to 5 hours per week and is provided by native-speaking teachers under state responsibility. At admission to school parents can register their child to the mother tongue teaching. Learning groups are also set up across schools, depending on the number of participants.

In Rheinland-Pfalz, depending on the location, mother tongue teaching is currently offered in the following languages: Albanian, Arabic, Bosnian, Chinese, Farsi, Greek, Italian, Croatian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Turkish, Kurdish / Sorani and Hungarian.
