Am I eligible for any financial support during pregnancy?
Germany - Rheinland - Pfalz

Do you have a child aged 0-3 or expecting a baby?

Apart from paying the costs of medical examinations during pregnancy and medical care during and after birth, there is no entitlement to further financial support.

There are some places that financially support pregnant women and families when money is scarce. You should inquire about all services at your pregnancy counseling center.

If you have little or no income, you can apply for unemployment benefit II (Hartz IV) or social assistance. Job center or social services pay expectant mothers after the twelfth week of pregnancy, an additional need and the initial equipment for pregnancy and baby.

The Federal Foundation "Mother and Child - Protection of Unborn Life" helps pregnant women in need quickly and unbureaucratically by providing additional financial support in connection with individual counseling. Pregnant women in need can receive donations if they do not have enough money to cover the costs of pregnancy, childbirth and the subsequent care and upbringing of the child. The application for financial assistance from the Federal Foundation for Mother and Child must be submitted to a pregnancy advice center before the birth of the child.

Upon application, the foundation “Family in need” grants special subsidies. The condition is that demonstrably all other possibilities have been exhausted. This must be set out in a request for help, which can be made through pregnancy and social counseling centers and the local youth or welfare office.
