The rights of the child are laid down in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was adopted by the United Nations in 1989 and is also valid in Germany (http://www.institut-fuer-menschenrechte.de/fileadmin/user_upload/PDF-Dateien/Pakte_Konventionen/CRC/crc_de.pdf).

After that, children have e.g. the right to education, the right to freedom of expression, the right to take into consideration the interests of the child, protection of privacy and honor, protection against the use of force, ill-treatment and neglect, the right to assistance in the event of disability, health care, participation in leisure, cultural and artistic life, protection against undue child labor, protection against sexual abuse and the right to maintain regular personal relationships and direct contacts with both parents, unless exceptional circumstances exist.
