Unmarried parents or parents who cannot prove their marriage must register the child in the same manner with the registry office as described above.
For unmarried couples, an official paternity acknowledgment is necessary for the father to be included in the birth certificate. It is also possible to have the father later added if the paternity is recognized after birth.
For the registration of the father in the birth certificate of the child is in addition the submission of a declaration of the acknowledgment of the paternity as well as the birth certificate of the father necessary.
The certification of the declaration of recognition of paternity can be performed free of charge at the registry office or the youth welfare office of the place of residence. This explanation should best be given before the birth so that the father can be included directly in the birth certificate. If this declaration is not available when the child is born, only the name of the mother is entered in the birth certificate.
With the recognition of paternity, the father is obliged to pay for the child until the age of 18. The question of whether the custody of the child is exercised jointly by mother and father, should be clarified promptly.
In the event of conflicts and ambiguities regarding the right to care and maintenance, the youth welfare offices offer advice.
