Day care centers offer care services for children with disabilities in infant, toddler, kindergarten and school age. For children from three years there are
• Special kindergartens: Children with disabilities stay here. The number of these institutions
is declining, mainly due to the positive experiences with integrative offers.
• Integration kindergartens: Children with and without disabilities play and learn together
there.
• Single integration or integrative groups in general kindergartens: One or more children
with disabilities are cared for together with non-disabled children. This is also possible in
day care centers of parenting initiatives.
Children with disabilities have a right to additional care. The costs are borne by the youth or social welfare office (different regulations in the federal states). Parents do not have to contribute to the costs. When visiting integrative institutions, parents have to pay the usual contributions that parents of non-disabled children have to pay
