Do you have a child aged 12-16?

At mid-term of grade six, the registration form for the secondary school will be given to parents together with a primary school report, which include information on skills, accomplishments and inclinations and a recommendation for secondary education.

In the registration form two desired schools can be specified. If the first-choice school does not have enough places, the child will be admitted to the second-choice school. If none of the two wishes can be fulfilled, the child will be assigned to a school at a reasonable distance from the place of residence.

Pupils aged 12-16 who come to Germany from another country should seek advice on which type of school is suitable for them. The state school boards (https://schulaemter.brandenburg.de/sixcms/detail.php/bb1.c.428185.de) help with consultation.

When registering, the following information and documents should be available:

• identity papers

• last attended school

• certificates from the last two years of schooling

• where applicable, obtained school graduation

• information about foreign languages

• requirement for special support

• special skills, interests and inclinations
