Do I have to pay for health insurance if I am pregnant?

The regulations for health insurance are the same for pregnant and non-pregnant women. But there are special supporting offers for pregnant women. There is for example the federal foundation “Mutter und Kind - Schutz des ungeborenen Lebens” who offers support for pregnant women in need. There is a consultation to find out what kind of support is needed. The support does not end with the birth of the child but can continue afterwards. It will be checked whether a person does need financial help. To ask for help, you have to live in Germany and you need a pregnancy certification. It is also checked if there are no other ways of support that are sufficient. The application for support has to be made before the child is born. This can be done at a pregnancy advisory centre.
