If you want to stay in Germany, it is highly important to learn the majority language, which is German, more precisely “Hochdeutsch”, that means German without a strong local accent. For children, the German language is an important key to their education. The job market offers much better opportunities for people who speak German, some areas cannot be entered without a certain level of competence in German. The local authorities do also require people to speak German. If you need a translation, you might be charged for that. There is only a small number of translators available and the costs are only covered in special cases.
