If possible, your child may attend a mainstream school. Certain schools will provide services for certain disabilities (e.g. dyslexia). Alternatively, specialized education is available in order to meet the specific educational needs of pupils with difficulties and aims at their personal fulfillment and their social and/ or professional integration.
The pupil will evolve in this way in ordinary education, at his own pace, thanks to a pedagogical framework allowing an individualisation of the teaching.
Paramedical, psychological and social personnel complete the educational team in order to enable the student to pursue his / her school curriculum according to his or her needs and potential. As in ordinary education, specialized education integrates the objectives of teaching missions.
Special education is organized into types, degrees of maturity (for basic education), forms and phases (for secondary education), according to the needs of the pupil.
Moreover, the PMS Center (Pyschological-medical-social Center) in Wallonia, or the CLB (Centrum voor Leerlingenbegeleiding) in Flanders, are at the disposal of pupils and their parents, from the moment they enter nursery school until the end of secondary education.
