In a medical emergency as a result of an accident, violence or a fire, call 100 (in Belgium) or 112 (valid throughout the European Union). Both of these numbers are free 24 hours a day from a landline, a public telephone or a mobile phone (even when networks are not available or overloaded).
In other cases, when it is also urgent you can also go to any hospital with an emergency room which are open 24/7. An additional charge may be asked if you did not see a GP first. If you cannot transport your child to the hospital, you can call an ambulance dialing 112.
In Belgium you are free to choose your hospital, they all accept the national insurance system, but if you have private insurance it is better to check in advance if it is accepted too.
If it is not urgent, first seek help from a General Practitioner (GP), and if needed he will send you to a hospital where you can go to the emergency room (urgences/ spoedafdeling). If you need to see a GP on weekends or at night when your GP is not on duty, you can call 1733. This number is not active for every region yet, to check whether 1733 is in service in your region you can check: https://apps.health.belgium.be/ordsm/02/f?p=SITE1733:1:16781841663547
If you need to go to a pharmacy beyond normal opening hours (9 to 7 Monday to Friday and Saturday 9 to 13h), please call to find the one on duty in your area: 0903 99 000
