What shall I do if I feel that me or my child was not treated well in the health care system?

Do you have a child aged 16-18 years?

If you think the patient rights of your child have been violated, you can file a complaint with the ombudsman. You can do so for example when you had a lack of information about his/her state of health or had difficulty accessing the medical file. The mediation service, which is neutral, will try to resolve the dispute between the patient and the healthcare provider. They will settle the dispute free of charge. Each hospital will usually have their own ombudsman, but for an individual health care provider (GP or dentist with private practice) you should contact the Federal “Patient Rights” Ombudsman. The list and contact details of these  mediators of these services are available at the following address: www.patientrights.be
