No, religious education is not required in Belgium's secondary education system. However, public schools may offer this as a possibility between one of the 6 recognised religions (Catholic, Protestant, Anglican, Orthodox, Jewish and Islamic) and, on the other hand, a course called "non-confessional morality". Faith-based schools can impose to follow religious courses to their pupils. Other schools (“ecoles libres”) non-faith based do not have to offer this type of education.
