Yes, your child is allowed to stay home from school on holidays of his/her religion assuming this is one of the recognized religions (Anglican, Islamic, Jewish, Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant religion).
However, the absence must be noted to the school on forehand and a written note must be provided.
This also counts for days during exams or tests, the school will then reschedule the exam/test for your child.
