Every parent has the right to a monthly allowance in Belgium for his children. This allowance is called child allowance (allocations familiales/kinderbijslag).

You can apply for child benefits through your child benefit fund (if you don’t know which, you can ask your employer) or through FAMIFED.
For children ages 16-18, you receive an allowance with an age supplement: http://www.kids.partena.be/content/default.asp?PageID=23
If you receive regular family allowances you benefit for the elder or single child from a supplement of age that depends on his age:
24,43 EUR from 12 to 17 years old
28,16 EUR from 18 years
From the second child and for each disabled child (whether he is the eldest or the single child ), the age supplement is:
48,88 EUR from 12 years to 17 years old
62,15 EUR from 18 years
If you receive increased family allowances (lone parent, pension, unemployment, sickness, accident at work, orphans and children with disabilities) for each child (eldest child, second and subsequent) you will receive a supplement which is:
48,88 EUR from 12 years to 17 years old
62,15 EUR from 18 years

If you are not entitled to child benefit under one of the above systems, the State Service for Child Benefit for Employees (ONAFTS) grants you the guaranteed family allowance. This family allowance is subject to strict conditions concerning income and the minimum length of your stay in Belgium. Your right expires as soon as you obtain rights in one of the other systems.
